What are the uses of Ammonium Bicarbonate?

Food and Beverage

Ammonium bicarbonate is used as a leavening agent which releases gas and create a light texture in the food baking industry, such as cookies and crackers. In beverages, it can be used as a foaming agent.

Pharmaceutical and Health care

Ammonium bicarbonate can be used as medicine and reagents. Additionally, it can be used as a pH adjuster in personal care products.


In textile Industry Ammonium bicarbonate can be used as an analytical reagent and used for the synthesis of ammonium salt and degreasing of fabrics and leather tanning. Furthermore, it is also considered an excellent materials for producing fire extinguishers.


In the agricultural sector, it is used as a nitrogen fertilizer. It leaves less or no residue in the soil. Once the ammonium ions have been absorbed by the plants, it has a minimal impact on the soil pH. However, due to its instability to decompose it is limited. This can be remedied by adding a  crystalline modifier.
